Bison Highway Wildlife Tour

From CAD $140.00
  • Duration: 4 Hours (approx.)
  • Location: Yellowknife, Select
  • Product code: LDP6

This isn’t a safari with fences — this is the real North. Join NWT Charter Services on a 4-hour round-trip tour to search for the largest free-roaming herd of bison in North America along the scenic shores of Great Slave Lake.

Led by a knowledgeable local guide, we’ll drive along Highway 3 toward Behchokǫ̀ and beyond in the hopes of spotting majestic wood bison grazing near the road. These are wild animals in their natural habitat — sightings are highly likely but never staged.

(And let’s be honest: the bison don’t exactly follow our tour schedule.)

Keep your eyes open for more than just bison. It’s not uncommon to catch glimpses of foxes, lynx, bears, moose and even wolves if they’re feeling social. Every tour is different, shaped by nature, light, and a bit of luck.

Your guide will share stories about the animals, the landscape, and Indigenous culture of the region as we pass through the beautiful Tłı̨chǫ community of Edzo. We’ll stop for photos and wildlife watching whenever it’s safe and possible.

What’s Included:

  • Hotel pickup and drop-off

  • Light snacks and beverages

  • Wildlife tracking and cultural insights with your guide

  • Great photo ops (no bison selfies, please)

Whether it’s your first time in the NWT or you’re a local showing visitors around, this is a raw, real, and refreshing way to connect with Northern wildlife and landscape.
